As part of the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation “Love Your Park” Week, Julian Abele Park held a several-hour cleanup and spruce up session this past Saturday.
We weeded, composted, mulched, pruned and planted our way through Julian Abele Park, getting it ready for the Summer Music series (which starts Friday June 8th).
Thank you to all our volunteers who came out to help; we couldn’t do it without you!
In the five years since Julian Abele Park re-opened we have seen steady growth and improvement and have offered our neighbors a great green place to socialize, decompress and enjoy a taste of nature. We’re proud of our accomplishments and hope that you will consider joining us in the future as we continue to grow and evolve our Park.
We’d especially like to single out Dan Feeser who has been so supportive of our participation in the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department’s “Plants Make Positive Places” (P3) Project for helping us last Fall and again this past Saturday as we planted native/local plant perennials such as Mountain Mint, Brown-Eyed Susans, Bee Balm, Smooth Aster, and Coneflowers in our bedding areas. We have a plaque recognizing our partnership in the program that we’ll be installing later this Spring.
And, we can’t thank our contributors and partners enough in their generous giving to our Irrigation Project, which was completed in April. Let’s hope our early morning watering schedule keeps what’s left of our grass green this Summer.
