Volunteer Opportunity to support the Philadelphia Broad Street Run May 2018

Hi Park Friends!

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is  seeking volunteers for the 2018 Broad Street Run coming up on Sunday May 6. They are looking for 200 volunteers to help make the Broad Street Run a zero waste event.

Philacycle volunteers will be overseeing a tri-material waste station, directing runners/spectators to drop their trash in the appropriate bin (waste, compost, recycling).

If you are interested in joining, please check out the website below to sign up. And please feel free to spread the word about this volunteer opportunity. Thank you for helping us make Philly a more sustainable city!

Growing Success: Love Your Park Fall 2017

Love Your Park Saturday 11.04.2017 was a great success!

Thank you to all of our volunteers for donating your time, energy, and enthusiasm on our work day. We got rid of lots of weeds and organic materials (we’ll see that back again in the form of compost in May 2018).

In addition, we worked on the lawn, re-seeding it and aerating it. Finally, dozens and dozens of crocus and daffodil bulbs were planted for blooming in Spring 2018.

Thanks to Parks and Recreation for your support and to all of you for the work.

We know you like good music, we saw you at our concerts this Summer. Here’s a great opportunity to enjoy still more music in our neighborhood, this time from our Fabulous Philadelphians.

And it’s the Percussion Section- some of the best!

P3 Project is happening: Fri 10/13 & Sun 10/15

Big news from Julian Abele Park: P3 Project is here.

Back in August we applied for, and were accepted into, the Parks and Recreation P3 program: “Plants Make Positive Places”. As part of that, we are going to re-plant several of our unsuccessful beds with new, native, non-invasive species.

There are two big opportunities to volunteer this weekend:

Friday October 13th 6 PM till ?: weed beds and lay compost

Sunday October 15th 9 AM-11 AM receive and transplant selected plant material

Please bring shovels, gloves, trowels, etc. Everyone is welcome and thank you in advance for helping!

Fundraising Update- Sprinkler/Irrigation System August 17 2017

Folks, thanks to the diligence of one of our members (and Mother Nature’s generous donations- seemingly every Friday!) our lawn area looks better than past years.

We are still very much short of our goal of $8,000.00 to install a sprinkler/irrigation system to help maintain the lawn in the future. We have arranged with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation that they will take over the maintenance contract after the first year.

Please consider a generous donation today:

Thank you! See you in the Park!
