As part of the Philadelphia Orchestra Musicians 4th Annual Audience Appreciation Day, we will be hosting a String Quartet+Flute from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM.

Hi Park Friends!
Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteers for the 2018 Broad Street Run coming up on Sunday May 6. They are looking for 200 volunteers to help make the Broad Street Run a zero waste event.
Philacycle volunteers will be overseeing a tri-material waste station, directing runners/spectators to drop their trash in the appropriate bin (waste, compost, recycling).
If you are interested in joining, please check out the website below to sign up. And please feel free to spread the word about this volunteer opportunity. Thank you for helping us make Philly a more sustainable city!

Green Estates got an early start on our lawn irrigation system today and hope to have the work completed by the end of the day. Here are some shots from early in the day as well as some video. Our deepest thanks to our donors, sponsors and neighbors for your contributions and enthusiasm. Here’s to a greener lawn this Summer (and don’t forget “Music and Mist” series begins Friday June 8 every Friday through September 7th……
Welcome to a belated Spring….remember back in November 2017 (that was a looong Winter ago), when we planted bulbs for the Spring? Here they are…enjoy your hard work, everyone!
Our trees are budding and we’ll soon see blooms on them as well.
Since we’re posting about workdays at Julian Abele Park, here’s a reminder to add Saturday May 12 to your calendars, for our “Love Your Park” event, 10 AM- Noon. We’ll be cleaning up, weeding and layering compost.
We’re also hoping to dedicate something, in honor of our five-year renovation anniversary- so stay tuned!
We will be meeting at 7PM at the SOSNA Office, 1901 Christian Street. This will be our first meeting of 2018.
Meet our new officers:
Dan Schupsky from the Philadelphia Water Department will be presenting opportunities for FOJA to participate in the Water Department’s Soak It Up Adoption Program.
Hope to see you on February 6th!

President of the Friends of Julian Abele Park
Love Your Park Saturday 11.04.2017 was a great success!
Thank you to all of our volunteers for donating your time, energy, and enthusiasm on our work day. We got rid of lots of weeds and organic materials (we’ll see that back again in the form of compost in May 2018).
In addition, we worked on the lawn, re-seeding it and aerating it. Finally, dozens and dozens of crocus and daffodil bulbs were planted for blooming in Spring 2018.
Movie Night is back @ Julian Abele Park!
Thanks to Councilman Kenyatta Johnson there will be one more event at Julian Abele Park this season.
Please join us all on Friday October 27th from 6-9 PM for a showing of the Pixar film “Up”.
There will be popcorn and refreshments- bring a blanket (or two?) and enjoy the show!
We have a listing of events from October 1st-15th; check them out, and join us at Julian Abele Park:
