Spring @ Julian Abele Park, April 2018

Welcome to a belated Spring….remember back in November 2017 (that was a looong Winter ago), when we planted bulbs for the Spring? Here they are…enjoy your hard work, everyone!

Our trees are budding and we’ll soon see blooms on them as well.

Since we’re posting about workdays at Julian Abele Park, here’s a reminder to add Saturday May 12 to your calendars, for our “Love Your Park” event, 10 AM- Noon. We’ll be cleaning up, weeding and layering compost.

We’re also hoping to dedicate something, in honor of our five-year renovation anniversary- so stay tuned!

Growing Success: Love Your Park Fall 2017

Love Your Park Saturday 11.04.2017 was a great success!

Thank you to all of our volunteers for donating your time, energy, and enthusiasm on our work day. We got rid of lots of weeds and organic materials (we’ll see that back again in the form of compost in May 2018).

In addition, we worked on the lawn, re-seeding it and aerating it. Finally, dozens and dozens of crocus and daffodil bulbs were planted for blooming in Spring 2018.

Thanks to Parks and Recreation for your support and to all of you for the work.

P3 Project is happening: Fri 10/13 & Sun 10/15

Big news from Julian Abele Park: P3 Project is here.

Back in August we applied for, and were accepted into, the Parks and Recreation P3 program: “Plants Make Positive Places”. As part of that, we are going to re-plant several of our unsuccessful beds with new, native, non-invasive species.

There are two big opportunities to volunteer this weekend:

Friday October 13th 6 PM till ?: weed beds and lay compost

Sunday October 15th 9 AM-11 AM receive and transplant selected plant material

Please bring shovels, gloves, trowels, etc. Everyone is welcome and thank you in advance for helping!
